#StylishSquad Fashion Editorial: Melvin Lachica’s “In Mod We Trust” Collection
The mod subculture kicked off in London, England in the late ’50s before spreading around the world throughout the ’60s and early ’70s. Along with it was the popularity of mod fashion, which was celebrated for bursts of both bold and pastel colors, striking cuts and a rebellious, youthful attitude that rubbed off in the ’70s disco era.
Recently, veteran Filipino fashion designer Melvin Lachica has taken mod fashion for a modern spin in his latest Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival collection.
“My inspiration for my collection is the ’60s mod fashion, which is why I called the collection ‘In Mod We Trust‘,” Melvin shared with us in an interview. “I used Jusi or raw silk fabrics for my latest creations.”
The Cagayan de Oro-based style visionary has created ultra-fun and wearable mod couture pieces in eyecandy colors, with big ruffles and unique striped prints.
Melvin Lachica is super loved by fashion glitterati for his versatility, surprising us every time with his eclectic offerings on the runway. Entering the couture scene with the launch of his notable brand Casa Lachica in 1996, Melvin Lachica has been regarded as one of the leading designers in the Philippines.
