Okay obviously, I’ve been obsessed with K-Drama lately.  And why not? These series have riveting plots! Plus I’m loving the gorgeous Korean stars. And you know what’s eye-candy about these TV dramas, too? The amazing fashion narratives!

Let me round up the most unforgettable female characters in K-Drama mainly because for their remarkable, game-changing style on TV:

  1. Jang Mon-wol as played by IU

Hotel Del Luna is tvN’s highest-rated drama in 2019 because of its unique plot. But insiders believe that it was also thanks to the show’s rich fashion offerings. So much so that top Korean style bloggers dubbed the show as very much like “a 16-episode runway show”.

IU plays the character of Jang Mon-wol, the beautiful femme fatale and CEO of the haunted Hotel del Luna, who has lived 1,300 years while donning the most outlandish and beautiful clothes in all of her lifetime. I know, major fashion envy!

The show has made IU an instant fashion icon in Korean pop culture as the actress reportedly wore over 100 outfits in the fantasy drama, changing her looks every seven minutes on average.  This female lead’s wardrobe ranges from haute couture worth over US$4,000, to the trendiest pieces from major fast fashion stores in the world. According to Korean media outlet Insight, the production team spent over US$8,400 on IU’s fashion and makeup for each episode.

Since the story revolves around Jang Mon-wol’s very loooong life, naturally the series covers various fashion eras, from vintage to ultra modern and any stylish thing in between. From majestic hanboks, to ’90s leather ensembles and denim outfits, Jang Mon-wol made every scene a memorable fashion moment.  This fashion queen even more popularized long dresses with cool frills, ensembles with cape-like details, peplum skirts, pieces with bow neck details, whimsical prints, robes used as dresses and cute accessories from brooches, hats, headbands to pins.

2. Yoon Se-ri as played by Son Ye Jin

In Crash Landing On You, actress Son Ye Jin is lady CEO Yoon Se-ri, an heiress who lost her way in North Korea after a paragliding accident. As the honcho of her own brand Seri’s Choice, she is known as a socialite with a discerning taste from dining to fashion. Yoon Se-ri’s style is truly aspirational in this series– as it is mostly all about urban power-dressing, yet overall eclectic. She casually rocks all-leather ensembles some days, utilitarian style the next, and then soft silhouettes and florals during key dramatic scenes. Every single city outfit though screams high level sophistication. This character’s wide range of high end purses can make any woman drool, as she carries around premiere bags from Fendi, Mui Mui, Gucci, Longchamp and Dior, to name a few.

3. Jo Yi Seo as played by Kim Da Mi

Jo Yi Seo from the Netflix-produced show Itaewon Class is a punk princess, style-wise. The spunky blogger and manager is styled nonchalantly in a wide range of black leather jackets as her personal style uniform. TBH, I am in love with her every black leather jacket because each one of them is a literal fashion statement without even trying. She rocks a trendy dip-dye hairdo too, a very bold hairstyle that not many can pull off. I love that her fashion sense is a mix of street style and rock sensibility. This female lead also tends to gravitate towards oversized, plaid coats in different hues. While other times, she highlights her very distinct approach to layering.

4. Oh Yoon Seo as played by Yoo In-na

In the series Touch Your Heart, the beautiful Yoo In-na plays the role of an actress who went into a role immersion at a law firm for her upcoming project. This female lead is an absolute cutie with her quirky sense of style. What  I love about this stylish K-Drama character is she is always going for unique statement pieces. Her fashion sense is very experimental, yet still feminine. I mean, look at these cute outfits:

Now tell me, how do I get over these iconic fashion looks from these K-Drama queens?
