Manila, Philippines — K-pop queens Lisa, Rosé, Jennie and Jisoo, collectively known as Blackpink, made history as they marked their first stage performance at the MTV Video Music Awards 2022. It was also the South Korean group’s debut in the American awards show scene.

With Blackpink’s eight VMA nominations, it’s hard to believe that the ladies are now only making their debut on the main stage.

Held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, the VMAs introduced the South Korean girl group that’s “taken over the world” as hyped by show host and American rapper Latto before the performance.

The girls performed their latest megahit “Pink Venom” all dressed in edgy leather ensembles with muted pink accents and bows. The song is the first single from Blackpink’s upcoming second studio album, “Born Pink” set to be released on September 16.

Before the group’s history-making stage debut, “Pink Venom” itself was breaking records as it became the most-streamed song by a female artist in a single day in 2022 by far on Spotify. It also scored the biggest 24-hour music video debut of the year on YouTube so far, with its whopping 90.4 million views in its first 24 hours.

Toward the end of the night, Blackpink took home the award for the ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ for for their “The Virtual” performance for ‘PUBG Mobile’. The group’s main rapper, Lisa, hit a milestone after named the first soloist to win Best K-Pop award at the 2022 VMA’s for her song “Lalisa.” The girls first won a VMA award in 2020 for their skyrocket hit “How You Like That.”
