One of my favorite things about our job here at Style Visionary Network is celebrating well, style visionaries. It always excites me to see new, fantastic work from all types of style creatives, especially by Filipino fashion designers.

How cute is this Little Mermaid-inspired frock on Kapuso actress and singer Mikee Quintos?

This lilac dress was created by Ehrran Montoya, one of the featured fashion creatives in The Style Visionary Issue of Stylish Magazine last year. You may read our full feature on Ehrran here.

The two-toned satin dress was donned by the Kapuso star during her photo shoot for her upcoming single ‘Just Enough’, which will be released on September 24. I had a little chitchat with the illustrator turned fashion designer about his latest design:

Stylish: How did you go about with your creative process for this ensemble?

Ehrran: “My stylist friend, Jan Ra, commissioned me on this project. He sent me pegs that resemble the Y2K fashion. Most of it are with ruffles and volumes with playful color combination of tones.”

“We talked about how he wanted the 2000s fashion to appear on his layouts for Mikee as it is coming back again. I love volumes and drapings so I immediately sketched the design.”

“I applied my design aesthetic with my signature floral form draping. We picked the colors lilac and spring green because it’s a perfect color combination to match with the color forecast for 2022.”

Stylish: What are the materials and fabrics you used for this one?

Ehrran: “I used three different shades of two-toned satin for the look. One is lilac with mix of blue for the base, then lilac with mix of orange shin for the ruffles, and then the two-tone spring green satin with gold reflection for the corset belt.”

“I’ve always wanted to use the two-tone satin fabric because it has the synthetic leather appearance, but it’s lightweight at the same time. So I presented it to Jan Ra right away and he loved the design. He approved the choice of fabrics and colors, too.”

“I was lucky enough that the materials are available at Prime Fabrics, since they are not usually the choice of fabrics of most Filipino designers. So it’s really limited in the market here in the Philippines.”

Stylish: What’s the inspiration behind the design?

Ehrran: “The design inspo for the draping is of course the rose formation and its petals. For the choice of colors, Ariel from The Little Mermaid was the inspiration. Jan Ra and I are such fans of Disney, and we would always come up with the same ideas of using them as our source of inspiration. Anything from our childhood is very close to our hearts.”

Stylish: Did you consider the aesthetic of Mikee Quintos when coming up with the design?
Ehrran: “I usually see her in simple, casual looks so we thought this is a great opportunity to do a more playful style on her. So for this one, I mostly considered her built to emphasize on, so I can make a silhouette that’ll look flattering on her. Other than that, she already has a perfect body and a gorgeous face to give justice to the look.”

It’s truly inspiring when brilliant fashion designers share their talent and craftsmanship to the world. You may see more of this designer’s creations on his Instagram page @ehrranmontoya.
