Hibalag Festival is all about coming together, and this year, Globe helped make sure the Silliman University community could stay connected while celebrating one of its biggest traditions.

Held in Dumaguete City, the annual festival is part of Silliman’s Founders Day celebrations and brings together students, alumni, organizations, and visitors through campus activities, organization booths, and homecoming events. Hibalag is a local Visayan term associated with meeting or coming together, fitting the festival’s role in reconnecting generations of Sillimanians and celebrating the university’s long-standing ties with Dumaguete City.

With increased activity across the Silliman campus, Globe deployed a Cellsite on Wheels (COW) at the Hibalag grounds to provide additional network capacity during major festival events. The temporary setup complemented Globe’s existing network in Dumaguete City, which includes more than 40 cell sites providing coverage to approximately 92% of the city’s population.

With 5G services also available, students, alumni, and visitors could stay online throughout the festivities, whether they were sharing photos, catching up with friends and family, or simply keeping in touch during the celebrations.

“Hibalag is an important tradition for the Silliman community. We are glad to support this tradition through reliable connectivity and programs that help young people lead and contribute to their communities,” said Jun Juada, Business Area Head for Western Visayas at Globe.

But Globe’s involvement went beyond keeping festivalgoers connected.

Through its Win The Youth (WTY) Program, Globe worked with Silliman student leaders through leadership training and grants designed to help turn their ideas into initiatives for the campus community. The program gave students opportunities to develop their leadership skills, collaborate with their peers, and take a more active role in university life.

The festival also gave students, alumni, and visitors a chance to engage with Globe through experiential booths and activities. Silliman students and other Globe customers in Dumaguete could enjoy Go5G Turbo 50, a localized data offer, while festivalgoers could redeem one Rewards point for a free ice cream through the GlobeOne app at the Globe booth.

For Globe, the partnership brought together two areas where it can support the Silliman community: providing the connectivity needed during an important university tradition and giving young people the support and resources to turn their ideas into initiatives.

As Hibalag continues to bring generations of Sillimanians together, the festival remains a place for connection in many forms, from catching up with old friends and celebrating university traditions to staying connected online and giving the next generation of student leaders the opportunity to make their ideas happen.
