Emma Stone’s Cruella: Our Fave Fashion Moments
Released last May 28, the film Cruella has been the talk of the town for its unique and sophisticated fashion pieces worn by Academy Award recipient Emma Stone, who played the titular role.
Having an estimated budget of almost $200,000M, the actress reportedly had a total of 47 outfit changes throughout the movie. The wardrobe was designed by none other than Jenny Beavan, a two-time Academy Award winning costume designer. Beavan once said that fashion isn’t her thing, and that she focuses on how the costumes could speak for themselves and be part of the set, just like the characters.
With the reports of an upcoming sequel of the film, we wanna round up here all the jaw-dropping fashion moments of Emma Stone’s Cruella, you know, before we witness a new whole fashion presentation on part 2:
Look 1: The Red Dress
After finding out that her boss Baroness was the one who killed her mother, Cruella started to plan for her revenge by aiming to steal her mother’s necklace back. She stole the attention of the guests and introduced Cruella to everyone with a red dress. Red is the color of either love or rage, and this dress couldn’t be more suitable in representing Cruella’s anger. This look surely marked the villain’s powerful entrance, and the birth of Cruella!
Look #2: Red Petals Skirt
Part of Cruella’s plan was to steal the attention from Baroness and put all the spotlight on herself. She started sabotaging Baroness’ red carpet appearances and caught everyone’s eyes with her oh so extra couture outfits. One of them was this black military-like top with various pins and chains, paired with a screaming red voluminous organza petal long skirt– which covered the entire car of Baroness. Completing the dramatic and rebellious look was a pair of black high combat boots!
Look #3: Garbage Truck Dress
If you think the last look was already extra, this entrance was probably the most extravagant of all! Not only did she wear a corset gown with newspapers on it, she also rocked a 40-foot-long skirt that almost covered the whole street! Cruella literally came out from a garbage truck to steal the scene. Despite it being just a few seconds in the movie, this scene was definitely one of the remarkable fashion moments in the flick.
Look #4: Spotty Coat Dress
Black and white Dalmatian spot prints are Cruella’s thing, and they’re showcased in this look.
With the addition of a pair of leather gloves, we can’t help but stan! This look was a symbol of her fully embracing her wickedness.
As a prequel to 101 Dalmatians, white with black spots are indeed present in this two-tone coat dress with asymmetrical skirt, matched gorgeously with a tower-heeled knee-high boots. She graced the runway while singing “I Wanna Be Your Dog”, days after brilliantly stealing Baroness’ three Dalmatians. This made Baroness to think Cruella killed her dogs, and embellished her dress with the dogs’ fur! Total savage!
Look #5: Gala Dress
After getting “killed” by Baroness, Cruella came back fiercer and crazier than ever and attended a gala that Baroness hosted. Descending the stairs with a floor-length black V-neck dress with a cape plus a pair of opera gloves, Cruella was just getting more brazen with her revenge, and fashion sense.
Look #6: Two-Toned Asymmetrical Suit
A perfect mission-accomplished-look, Cruella stunned everyone with her lavish resurgence while Baroness was being arrested. She sported this leather and silk asymmetrical suit, matched with a pair of stiletto boots. Finally letting go of Estella, she introduced herself once again not only as Cruella, but as Cruella De Vil.
Look #7: The Final Look
As the movie reached its final minutes, Cruella successfully attained her revenge. And because of a genius twist, she acquired the Hellman Hall. This final look with a black pointy cape suit just screamed power and authority. This is how you end a classic tale and fashion extravaganza.
After only months since Disney’s Cruella, the box office hit movie is apparently still not done with the villainess! Craig Gillespie, the director of Cruella, teased the fans with the film’s sequel, confirming Emma Stone’s return to play the Queen of Mean. While the second part of the movie is currently in the works, there is still no exact date yet on when it will be released. Nevertheless, we are excited about how mad and fierce Cruella would go fashion-wise! For now, you can watch Cruella (again) on Disney+ as we wait for the sequel.
