Typically, trends reappear on a 20-year cycle. And the ’90s decade of fashion is currently getting some serious attention from fashionistas of all generations. Love it or hate it, the ’90s trends are resonating these days more strongly than ever– especially the sandals. Here are some of the footwear that scream ’90s fashion that are definitely cool to rock again:

Birkenstock Footprint Sandals

The German company first launched the Footprint Sandals in the United States around the mid-1960s, and went in and out of trend over the next few decades. This comfy Birkenstock pair gained momentum in the 1990s though, and were described as “selling as well as Chanel princess pumps” by Los Angeles Times in 1991. And it is easy to see why. They’re comfy as hell, and match with almost any clothing. These sandals are made out of cork-latex, and have the distinct belt-like straps and buckles. Shoe stores are making sure to have a solid supply for more Birks sandals this year because they’re hot again. Kayla Marci, a market analyst said, “Birkenstock is still gaining traction in the market without the need for constant promotion.” I love that the Birks is in style again!

Adidas Shower Slides

You just can’t claim you’re a cool kid in the ’90s if you’d never had the Adidas Shower Slides, periodtt.

And I am not surprised at all that it’s making a comeback.

If you’re a ’90s kid, an updated way to wear these slides is to mix them with high end designer pieces. Don’t be afraid to play it up. To Gen Xers, I am sure you know that these ultra cool flops are essential for when you trynna pull some casual athleisure. If you’re simply a fashionista, you can wear ’em either way. And I’m sure you know a thousand ways how to rock ’em good because these babies are flexible styling-wise.

Steve Madden Wedge Sandals

All that Spice Girls vibe.

If you’re the Baby Spice in your clique back in the ’90s, or Ginger Spice, or simply a Spice Girls fan, you know how important wedge sandals are in your OOTD.

And yay! They’re back! And they’re modernized.

Steve Madden has teamed up with Urban Outfitters to bring back his famous Slinky Sandals,  the ultimate wedge sandals in the ’90s. They are now renamed as Scrunchy. The original style that comes in black was first designed in 1994. Today, the pair is being sold in three colors: classic black and pastels in lime and pink. The new Scrunchy version is curved, in contrast to the original shape which has the flat platform sole. The pastel ones are so quirky and cute, and I am already setting my sights on the pink one!

Dr. Martens Sandals

Chunky footwear is all the rage again! And it seems like the trend is staying for a while. This pair of chunky footwear from Dr. Martens is edgy and functional.  As a fashion footwear pillar in its 72-year reign, the enduring styles and developing designs of Dr.Martens shoes have transformed from straight up heavy-duty workwear to constant fashionista favorites. And let’s face it, anything from Dr. Martens is simply cool. But if you’re going for some serious ’90s look down your feet, then this pair is a great choice.

Without a doubt, ’90s footwear fashion is all about fun, comfort and casual coolness.
