Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda Show 2021 in Venice: A Blightsome Parade of Intricate Couture

I spent my afternoon yesterday watching the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Show in Venice virtually, and I was literally gasping at the sight of every creation. The fashion presentation is a festive parade of exceptionally phenomenal and stunning couture pieces, I could just cry. Founders and designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have definitely outdone themselves again with their latest Alta Moda collection. The runway event was held in a venue that has reportedly never hosted a fashion show before: St Mark’s Square, or Piazzetta San Marco.

This season’s Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Show saw the  collection being sent to the runway proper by gondola, an ancient boat in Venice, Italy. Alta Moda or Haute Couture is the creation of exclusive tailor-made garments developed mainly by hand using high quality fabrics, embellishments, decorations, and embroideries with extreme, intricate attention to details. The Alta Moda Show by Dolce & Gabbana usually showcases the artisanship and heritage of the host city, so as to have the couture pieces be like fashion souvenirs for its 400 or so wealthiest clientele and exclusively selected guests. The prestigious list included Jennifer Lopez, Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Sean Combs, Ciara, Christian Bale, Kitty Spencer and more.

The collection boasted of 100 intricate looks.  Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana shared with the press, “For us, Venice represents the perfect harmony of opposites that attract: it is romantic and sensual, melancholic and joyful, rational and visionary, luminous and nocturnal, sacred and profane, dark and golden.” Indeed, the pieces gave a nod to the city’s popular carnival masks and festivities.

Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Show was indeed a spectacular fashion event. To see more of the show, follow the luxury house @dolcegabbana on Instagram.
